Council leaders have drawn up a battle plan to help thousands of workers facing redundancy find new jobs, develop fresh skills or start their own businesses.

Derby City Council has launched what it says is a comprehensive programme of free support to help people whose livelihoods have been impacted by the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic.

The help includes online workshops and a virtual jobs fair and is part of the Derby Economic Recovery Task Force response to the Covid-19 crisis.

The council is working alongside the National Careers Service, Department for Work and Pensions, Derby Adult Learning service and East Midlands Chamber.

Gareth O’Donovan, the council’s head of economic growth said the initiative was part of a redundancy and redeployment pledge that the authority was making to workers and employers.

He said: “We want people to know that we are with them at this difficult time and will do all we can to help displaced employees find new jobs.
