A Tyneside mechanical and electrical specialist is creating new jobs as it marks its 50th anniversary with record revenues.

Directors at Norstead, part of the Killingworth-based construction firm Metnor Group, say the company is expanding outside its home territory as well as winning new projects.

Norstead, which has a second office in Maidenhead, was established in 1971 to specialises in the design and installation of mechanical and electrical services in a number of commercial and industrial sectors.

Despite the backdrop of the pandemic yielding tough results, turnover for Norstead is forecast to reach a record £40m in 2022, a 58% increase on 2019’s turnover of £23.5m.

The business, which has recently relocated into Metnor House, plans to secure new offices in Maidenhead later this year and create up to 10 new roles to support its expansion plans and bolster their engineering and commercial teams.

It has also created roles after setting out on one of its biggest projects to date with the development of Poole and Bournemouth NHS Trust, which has a combined deal value of £25m.

The project has involved developing a micro village on the south coast and recruiting a local team, which in turn has brought a number of employment opportunities to the area.

Recently completed and current projects in the pipeline include the development of the White Room at the British Museum, the critical care project at Chelsea and Westminster hospital, the Hyatt Hotel in Whitechapel, London and Thames Hospice in Bray.
