Chelsea sale put on hold as Roman Abramovich is sanctioned by º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government

Existing ticket holders can attend matches but future sale of tickets is cast in doubt

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich

Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the º£½ÇÊÓƵ Government, freezing the Russian-Israeli billionaire's planned sale of Chelsea.

The Chelsea Football Club owner faces a ban on all transactions with º£½ÇÊÓƵ businesses and individuals, as well as a travel ban and transport sanctions.

Others included in the sanctions are Igor Sechin, Oleg Deripaska and Dmitri Lebedev.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "There can be no safe havens for those who have supported Putin’s vicious assault on Ukraine. Today’s sanctions are the latest step in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people. We will be ruthless in pursuing those who enable the killing of civilians, destruction of hospitals and illegal occupation of sovereign allies."

Mr Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale on March 2 in the wake of Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine.

He has owned Chelsea since 2003 and has always staunchly denied any current political links to Russia's ruling elite, but Boris Johnson's Government has now frozen all his º£½ÇÊÓƵ assets.

Chelsea will be given a special licence to continue operation, but the sale of the Stamford Bridge club is now on hold.
