Two of Wales’ leading family-owned food service and hospitality companies have signed a three-year agreement for the supply of food to 100 sites across Wales.

Carmarthenshire’s Castell Howell Foods and Cardiff’s SA Brain & Co are building upon their successful 14-year partnership, and are now planning for the post-Covid-19 recovery in the hospitality sector.

For Castell Howell, which has its headquarters in Cross Hands and a cash and carry in Carmarthen, the pandemic has hit the business hard.

When the outbreak reached the º£½ÇÊÓƵ the wholesaler lost 80% of its customers in one fell swoop and weekly sales were down by 65%.

At the end of June the company announced that due to the effects of the pandemic some of its 700 employees could be at risk.

The “difficult decision” was made to enter a period of consultation with its employees over potential job cuts.

Brian Jones and his family established Castell Howell Foods in the 1980s.

Since then the company has grown from its Carmarthenshire farming roots to become one of the º£½ÇÊÓƵ’s leading independent food wholesalers.
