You've bean framed: City chef Glynn Purnell stars in Brum Creatives photography exhibition

It has been organised by SmokeShow Images, a collaboration between photographer Ian Davies and award-winning stylist, Sy-Anne Holden

A series of ‘light-hearted’ photographic portraits featuring some of Birmingham’s most creative people will go on display at a Digbeth gallery.

Brum Creatives aims to celebrate the rich talent the city produces and features everyone from local designers, artists, writers, producers and filmmakers, to celebrity figures such as comedian Jasper Carrott, and creator Steven Knight.

The exhibition has been organised by SmokeShow Images, a collaboration between photographer Ian Davies and award-winning stylist, Sy-Anne Holden and partnered with the Arts Council-funded Birmingham Loves Photographers Spring/Summer Programme.

The duo said: “Having initially been required to shoot some portraits of local creative industry professionals, we saw the opportunity to produce a wider project, not only to develop creative working relationships but to look into the many colourful characters that are based in Birmingham and surrounding areas.

“From artistic direction and styling through to post-production, SmokeShow take a light-hearted approach to documenting and celebrating the city’s creatives.”

Michelin-starred chef Glynn Purnell, who was photographed wearing a dinner suit while tucking into a plate of beans, said: “I was initially approached by SmokeShow at the beginning of the project.

“From the outset, Sy-Anne and Ian’s creative project sounded really exciting. Their ideas and enthusiasm were impressive. It was a pleasure working with them on the shoot. As well as being really professional, we had loads of fun.

“It has been brilliant watching the whole project evolve and I am honoured to be part of it. The images are a fantastic portrayal of Birmingham personalities.”
