A Bristol business that has helped the government to convert vans into mobile Covid-19 testing units during the pandemic has announced plans to expand its operations, which would double the size of its workforce.

Commercial vehicle conversion company TGS Automotive recently completed a contract for the Department of Health and Social Care to upgrade 500 Renault Master vans in the space of three months.

The family-run business, which has been based at its current premises on Balaclava Road in Fishponds for around 15 years, is now looking to more than treble its workspace capacity to enable it to fulfil other large-scale public and private sector projects.

Company director Glenn Smith said the proposed expansion would include establishing a vehicle handover and conference centre to enhance customer experience and consolidation of administrative offices.

The planned moves would allow for its current number of 45 workshop engineers to be more than doubled.

Mr Smith said TGS’ recent work had “firmly cemented” its position among the top 10 van and truck conversion companies in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ.

Mr Smith said: “We completed the contract for health service vehicles in an unprecedented three months, demonstrating our capacity to fulfil large-scale public and private sector contracts with government, local authorities, fleet operators and leasing corporations on time and to the customer’s entire satisfaction.”
