Bristol Airport has launched the second round of its employment programme for young people. The Take Off initiative is a training and skills scheme to help 18-24-year-olds find jobs.

The programme is delivered in partnership with Weston College and North Somerset Council, and provides mentoring, employability workshops, and skills development for young learners who are currently not in employment, education or training.

The initiative is aimed at helping participants to secure roles, including opportunities with employers such as businesses based within Bristol Airport.

The transport hub said the scheme's launch follows on from the success of its first Take Off programme - dubbed ‘Soaring to Success’ - which saw five people offered jobs within the airport including at M&S, Boots, SSP and First Bus.

Funded by a section 106 agreement with the council, the programme is part of Bristol Airport’s wider commitment to supporting local people into work, it added.

Pat Jones, principal and chief executive of Weston College, said: "This initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing inclusive education and training opportunities, ensuring individuals from all backgrounds can develop the skills needed to thrive in the workforce."

Councillor Catherine Gibbons, North Somerset Council’s deputy leader, said it was "fantastic" to see the airport investing in young people in the region.

"The Take Off programme not only provides practical skills and valuable work experience but also builds confidence and ambition in those who may have faced barriers to work," she said.
