Bristol Airport appoints planning and sustainability director

Clare Hennessey has previously worked on major projects such as the Hinkley Point C nuclear plant and the London 2012 Olympic Games

Bristol Airport has appointed an experienced planning and sustainability director, who previously worked on major infrastructure projects such as the Hinkley Point C nuclear plant and the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Clare Hennessey previously led teams responsible for securing planning permission for the Aquatics Centre, the Broadcast and Media Centre, and the Olympic Parklands projects for the Olympics in the capital.

Ms Hennessey’s prior experience in the aviation sector includes providing strategic advice to Gatwick Airport and the Government on policy for airport expansion in the South East, while she was also a planning manager on the London Crossrail project

Bristol Airport said Ms Hennessey would play a “key role” on the transport hub’s future, as it looks to expand its capacity from 10 million to 12 million passengers a year.

Ms Hennessey commented: “I am excited to join the Bristol Airport team and I understand the important role Bristol Airport plays in the region. It is a major tourism gateway, connecting the region for both business and leisure, and provides a wide range of business, tourism, and job opportunities.

“I look forward to working with our stakeholders as we take forward the first of many transformational projects for the airport and masterplan for growth aligned with our sustainability goals.”

Bristol Airport’s chief executive David Lees said: “We are delighted to welcome Clare to the team, she joins Bristol Airport at an exceptionally exciting time. Clare will oversee the development of our masterplan, sustainability strategy and partnerships.
