A leading expert in cosmetic procedures is calling for the 海角视频鈥檚 拢3.6billion industry to be regulated after concerns over botched treatments.
Dr Ian Strawford, a qualified and experienced GP, has just invested 拢80,000 into equipping and decorating the Skin Excellence Clinics in Plymouth where he will be performing the latest non-surgical procedures.
The medic, a doctor for more than 30 years, said the cosmetic industry is now 鈥渉uge鈥, with some doctors valuing it at 拢3.6billion, of which procedures such as Botox and dermal fillers accounting for about 拢2.75billion.
But unlike in the USA, where Dr Stawford has carried out training, the 海角视频 is unregulated and he wants something done about this.

He said procedures are being performed by people with no medical training and there are so many botched treatments a register of them needs to be created.
He said: 鈥淢y concern is (the industry鈥檚) growth has been completely unregulated, and procedures are carried out by non-medical trained people.
鈥淲e increasingly see complications and are trying to create a register of them. How many cased of blindness are linked to dermal fillers? We know there are significant numbers.
鈥淚 think there needs to be legislation in the 海角视频, on who can and cannot do these treatments. So the people doing the treatments are properly trained and operate from appropriate premises.鈥
Dr Strawford is an internationally trained expert who has treated celebrities including actress Hetty Baynes-Russell, widow of the late film director Ken Russell, who has appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows and who officially opened his Plymouth clinic.

Dr Strawford, who has run his debut Skin Excellence Clinics base in Somerset for some years, has decided to bring the Vampire Facelift, Orgasm Shot and Collagen Lift to Plymouth, also offering Botox, fillers, skin renewal, mole removal and nose shaping, alongside more unusual treatments to tackle the menopause and improve sexual health.
The latter includes the O-Shot (Orgasm Shot), using blood-derived growth factors to 鈥渞ejuvenate the vagina to help relieve urinary incontinence and restore sexual appetite鈥, and the P-Shot (Priapus Shot): a new non-surgical procedure for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
鈥淭here are only about four people in the country licensed to do this,鈥 Dr Strawford said.
The medic has visited Plymouth many times to treat patients and was so taken with the Ocean City he decided to expand and open a new base in The Crescent office cluster creating jobs 鈥 and even lives in Plymouth now part time.
鈥淚 love it here,鈥 he said. 鈥淭his is a fab city. It is up and coming, there is a vibe here.鈥

He said cosmetic 鈥渢weakments鈥 are the biggest beauty trend of 2020, and added: 鈥淚t鈥檚 a huge growth area. Every year something new is developed, it鈥檚 more effective and safer.鈥
Dr Strawford said he treats people 鈥渇rom all walks of life鈥, including Baby Boomers who want to stay young looking and the selfie-generation Millennials. Men area increasingly using cosmetic procedures too, including for hair restoration.
He said prices range from 拢75 for a medical grade facial to about 拢3,000 for a full non-surgical Collagen facelift.
He said: 鈥淕one are the days of taking extreme measures in the search of beauty. I want my clients to look good for their age, and feel confident about the way they look.鈥

Dr Strawford said his Collagen Lift, for instance, is the most advanced non-surgical face lift treatment available anywhere and added: 鈥淚t is now possible to create a better result with the latest technology than with a surgical face lift. The process is not invasive and the downtime and recovery much less.鈥
Dr Strawford said he had been working on opening his Plymouth clinic for a year, using Plymouth area companies such as Stackhouse Design, KKC Construction, Studio One, ThruFloors Ltd and Brett Potter Air Con.
The clinic has a reception, consulting room and two treatment/therapy rooms.

鈥淚 wanted to create an ambience of luxury and professionalism,鈥 he said.
Dr Strawford has employed aesthetic therapist Rebecca Whitley and clinic manager Natalie Tandy already, and said he expects to double the team within a year.
He has applied to the Care Quality Commission for registration, expecting it by the end of the year, which will allow him to provide even more treatments, including surgical procedures such as thread lifting and hormone treatments.
