Birmingham Publicity Association supports Acorns despite lockdown cancellations

Media industry trade body had pledged to support Birmingham charity with donations from its 2020 events but they fell victim to the coronavirus lockdown

A business trade group in Birmingham has given £5,000 to the city's Acorns Children's Hospice charity.

The Birmingham Publicity Association (BPA) has donated the figure to help Acorns during the coronavirus lockdown after charities were massively impacted by fundraising events being cancelled across the country.

Wythall-based Acorns provides care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and support services for their families, operating from three hospice sites in Selly Oak, Worcester and Walsall.

Last summer, it launched an urgent appeal to after it was placed under threat of closure due to a shortfall in funding.

BPA, which brings together the media, advertising and creative industries from across the city, was planning to raise money for Acorns this year through its various fundraising efforts and networking events.

But due to the covid-19 lockdown, the calendar of events has been put on hold however the association has decided to donate £5,000 regardless.

Chairman Mark McDonagh said: "We were determined to be able to continue to support Acorns, despite the current climate.

"They are still supporting hundreds of families throughout the Midlands and we wanted to make sure they knew we were still there for them.
