A student from Birmingham could be the country's next top birthday card designer after clinching a gong for her work.

Nora Wright, an illustration student at Birmingham City University, has won a prestigious work placement and an award from top firm Hallmark Cards.

Her work, entitled 'Picture Perfect Designs', were spotted by the retailer at the 2015 New Designers show in London.

The event is an annual showcase of work by Britain's most promising budding designers, featuring everything from textiles and jewellery to product design and illustration.

Ms Wright said she was "surprised, amazed and delighted" to have been chosen for the Hallmark Cards Award.

She will receive a cash prize along with a two-month placement with Hallmark Cards starting next month.

She said: "I'm so excited to be working in such a creative environment. I know I'm going to learn so much.

"My biggest inspiration is British history - I'm inspired by stories, gowns and architecture. I think Britain's history in particular is like a fairy tale, it's unbelievable it all happened."
