Birmingham City chief executive Xuandong Ren has left the club

The chief executive of Birmingham City FC has left the club with immediate effect.

Xuandong Ren has been in the role since 2017 and acted as the face of the club's Chinese owner Trillion Trophy Asia.

A very brief statement posted on the club's website today said: "Chief executive officer Xuandong Ren has resigned from his position at the club with immediate effect.

"The board would like to place on record their sincere thanks for his service and contribution. The club will be making no further comment at this time."

There is no news yet about who may replace Mr Ren,

Eight first-team managers have taken the reins during the Trillion Trophy Asia including incumbent Lee Bowyer.

Mr Ren has faced a backlash from fans with some producing banners calling for the chief executive to leave along with other changes at the top of the club.

Birmingham City will be in the Championship division again next season after finishing in 18th place while their city rivals Aston Villa are on course for a top half finish in the Premier League this season.
