A Christmas market in Birmingham which made its debut last year will return for the festive season in 2022.

Colmore Business Improvement District has announced that its 'Christmas in Cathedral Square' will return for a month from November 16.

The body estimates that around 300,000 visitors came to the market next to Birmingham Cathedral in 2021, complementing the traditional Frankfurt Market in Victoria Square and adding millions to the city's visitor economy.

Around 50 local businesses, food and drink producers and craftspeople showcased their goods in the run up to Christmas with attractions including a helter-skelter and a pop-up bar called Pigeon in the Park alongside daily live music performances.

The market will be delivered in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Birmingham Cathedral and operator Danter Attractions and a search has now been launched for vendors to take space at this year's event.

Michele Wilby, chief executive of Colmore BID, said: "We set out to make Christmas 2021 one to remember and, judging from the feedback we had, Christmas in Cathedral Square accomplished this.

"The festive market was perhaps one of the most ambitious public events we've delivered as it transformed the grounds of Birmingham Cathedral into a bustling Christmas experience.
