An independent optician which launched its third branch in Knowle last year has expanded through a merger deal.

Banks Opticians opened in a former art gallery in the town's High Street 15 months ago and has now acquired local business Bannister Eyecare in an undisclosed deal.

As part of the buyout, some of the Bannister team will be joining the newly enlarged company which is run by brother and sister team Paul Banks and Sarah Morgan whose father started the firm in 1973.

The company also has two practices in Birmingham.

Mr Banks said: "We had only just opened our Knowle branch when we were approached by Bannister Eyecare. The opportunity felt like a natural fit.

"Bannister Eyecare is one of Knowle's longest-standing independent opticians and has been a familiar and trusted presence in the village for many years.

"We're honoured to continue this legacy at our newly opened practice just a short walk away."

Ms Morgan added: "It feels like a real full-circle moment as I previously worked with founder Austin Bannister earlier on in my career.

"Now we'll be looking after 5,000 of his former clients."
