Plans to build up to 260 homes to the south east of Wakefield are set to be submitted in coming weeks.

Banks Property, part of the wider Banks Group, is preparing proposals for an 11 hectare site to the east of the B6273 Wakefield Road in Hemsworth. The firm is preparing for two public events in which it will give residents and businesses the opportunity to ask questions and share their views about the proposals, which include a network of new cycle paths and footpaths being created, new wildlife habitats created to encourage local biodiversity and an electric vehicle charging point installed at every new home.

If successful, the Hollins Bank development will feature houses of different types and sizes. Banks says 125 jobs could be directly supported during the construction phase, with a further 180 indirectly supported by the project and contract opportunities made available to nearby businesses.

More than 2.7 hectares of public open space or around 25% of the total site area will be made available as part of the scheme, while routes to Vale Head Park and Hemsworth Water Park to the north will be improved. And new footpath routes along with improvements to the Station Road/B6273 Hemsworth town centre junction have also been suggested.

Kate Culverhouse, community relations manager at the Banks Group, said: "There is a clear and increasingly pressing need across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ to increase the available supply of quality homes, including in this popular part of West Yorkshire. We firmly believe that people should have the opportunity to stay in or move to the places where they wish to live, and that this is a wholly-suitable location for the high-quality development that we’re proposing to deliver.

"The site is close to local schools, shops and the town centre, well connected to local services and is a logical northern extension to the existing community. Our surgeries will enable local people and businesses to find out more about the work we’re looking to undertake, and to put ideas and questions forward which will help to inform the planning application that we’ll submit to Wakefield Council for review."

Banks will stage two appointment only events at Hemsworth Community Centre, with the first to be held from 3pm to 7pm on August 30, and the second happening between the same times on September 5.
