Balfour Beatty has secured a £670m contract to revamp a section of a major interstate highway in Dallas, Texas.
The project, awarded by the Texas Department of Transportation, entails the reconstruction of a 3.7km stretch of the Interstate 30 route on the eastern side of Dallas County, as reported by .
The plan is to double the number of general-purpose lanes from six to 12 and construct nine crossings.
This new contract comes on the heels of a previous £575m award from the Texas government in November for the reconstruction of a segment of the Interstate 35 through Austin.
"This contract award marks a significant milestone in Balfour Beatty's 30-year partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation and our proven track record of successful project delivery," said Leo Quinn, the outgoing chief of the construction group.
He added: "With decades of experience executing complex roadway projects in Dallas, and an in-depth understanding of the region's infrastructure, we are uniquely positioned to deliver these essential improvements."
He also noted that the work would "This work will not only enhance connectivity and reduce congestion but also foster long-term economic growth and opportunity across the region."
Preconstruction is slated to commence in 2026 and is projected to span five years.
Shares in Balfour Beatty saw a slight uptick of 0.51 per cent in early trading. The construction firm is currently implementing a £125m share buyback programme and has consistently increased dividends in recent results.
Other notable contracts bagged by Mitie include a £363m agreement with the National Grid for work on the East Anglian electricity network, and a £185m project to dual the A9 motorway in Scotland.
