A well-known figure in the North East automotive sector has received one of his profession鈥檚 top honours after he was named a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Matt Boyle, best known for his leadership of North East electrification companies Sevcon and Turntide Technologies, was one of 71 leading figures in the fields of engineering and technology welcomed to the academy earlier this month. Mr Boyle is chair of the North East Automotive Alliance and is a professor of practice at Strathclyde University, having previously held a similar position at Newcastle University.
He said: 鈥淭his is one of the proudest moments of my life. I was born an engineer and it鈥檚 all I have ever wanted to be.
鈥淚 reflected on all of the wonderful engineers and teams I鈥檝e worked with over the years. I couldn鈥檛 have achieved as much as I have without them. The journey continues at University of Strathclyde and National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland, trying to help the 海角视频 build supply chains for electrification by innovating and building skills. Engineering is a true vocation.鈥
Prof Boyle joins the Royal Academy alongside 59 other Fellows, six International Fellows and five Honorary Fellows. Pioneering engineers elected include Brompton Bicycle CEO Will Butler-Adams, Reaction Engines CEO Mark Thomas, and Roni Savage, founder and CEO of Jomas Associates.
Dr John Lazar, president of the Royal Academy of Engineering, said: 鈥淥ur new Fellows represent some of the most talented people in the world of engineering.鈥
