Amazon creating hundreds of new jobs in Wales

The online retail giant is creating new jobs at its operations in Swansea, Newport and Port Talbot

Online retail giant Amazon is creating hundreds of new jobs in Wales as part of a huge expansion across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ as it targets recruiting 10,000 new permanent staff this year.

So far this year Amazon has already hired a further 3,000 permanent staff across it º£½ÇÊÓÆµ network of fulfilment centres, sort centres and delivery stations .

Due to a significant rise in business, in part driven by increasing online shopping as a result of the pandemic, it is now adding a further 7,000 new permanent roles by the end of this year.

The new roles, including engineers, graduates, HR and IT professionals, health and safety and finance specialists, as well as the teams who will pick, pack and ship customer orders.

In Wales it will mean that more than 200 additional permanent roles will have been created by the end of this year. Outside of this it is also recruiting for around 500 seasonal positions to support its festive operations.

Specifically the fulfilment centre in Swansea, which currently employs around 1,000 people, will create a further 200 permanent roles by December. It is also hiring for more than 400 seasonal roles.

The delivery station in Newport will have increased its permanent headcount from around 40 at the beginning of 2020, to more than 60 by the end of the year. It is also hiring for around 80 seasonal roles.
