Amazon to create hundreds of Christmas jobs

Across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ it is looking to fill 15,000 seasonal roles

Amazon is looking to hire hundreds of seasonal staff for the key trading period at its fulfilment centre in . Across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ, the US-owned e-commerce business is recruiting to fill more than 15,000 seasonal positions.

Seasonal staff will be paid a minimum of £13.50 per hour (which will apply in Swansea) rising to £14.50 depending upon location. While Amazon couldn’t give an exact figure on seasonal jobs in Wales, it is expected to be in the region of 500 - around the same number as last year.

Amazon has invested £550m in increased pay for operations employees across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ since 2022, representing a 35% increase in the hourly rate in just two years.

Its º£½ÇÊÓÆµ operations director Anil Verma said: “We prepare year-round for the festive season, and we’re excited to have more than 15,000 positions available this year in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ. Our seasonal colleagues play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers.

“We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year-after-year to Amazon, and to welcoming new faces to the team.” The company employs 1,400 in Swansea, with around a further 600 at delivery stations in , and Deeside. It is one the biggest private sector employers in the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ with a workforce of 75,000

Last month it announced a 9.8% increase in its starting pay for frontline operation workers. In Wales this has seen the starting wage being increased to £28,080 a year. Amazon’s º£½ÇÊÓÆµ country manager John Boumphrey said: “Our frontline employees across the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ operations network are a huge part of the success of our business and we appreciate everything they do to deliver for our customers.
