Lord Sugar labelled Tory leader candidate Boris Johnson and US President Donald Trump 鈥渂uffoons鈥 during a Brexit-fuelled rant in Bridlington.

The businessman and star of BBC鈥檚 鈥楾he Apprentice鈥 spoke at Bridlington Spa as headline speaker at The Business Day 鈥 the sparkling finale to the 2019 Humber Business Week.

During a passionate rant about the country鈥檚 political turmoil, he accused Boris Johnson of 鈥渓ying to the public鈥 with a 拢350m NHS pledge in the run-up to the EU referendum in 2016.

He also said Donald Trump had adopted similar tactics in the US presidential race, when he made 鈥減romises to the population on matters to do with immigration.鈥

Lord Sugar shared his journey in business with an audience of around 600 people at Bridlington Spa last Friday.

Other subjects included Tottenham Hotspur, as Lord Sugar ruled himself out of a return to the football club in the future.

He said: 鈥淒onald Trump is a buffoon. If you were to say to me three years ago he would be president, I would have bet anyone 拢1m it was never going to happen.

鈥淚t happened because he made promises to the US population of the things he was going to do. It included matters to do with immigration.

鈥淚t was music to the ears of truck drivers and their wives in certain states. They were sick of people who spoke high-brow languages and were sophisticated.鈥

Lord Sugar also hit out at Boris Johnson, who is in the running to become the next Conservative Party leader.

He said: 鈥淗ad Boris not been a serial liar he might have stood a chance.

鈥淗e is a buffoon and a clown, but he is a refreshing change to these stiff upper-lipped people who talk things the public cannot understand.

鈥淚 do think it will be Boris (who wins the leadership race) despite being in the news recently accused of misleading us.鈥

Lord Sugar warned the public it would 鈥渂e very sorry鈥 if Boris was elected, and said 鈥渋t will be a long, hard slog leaving the EU.鈥

The Amstrad founder gave his analysis on the current Brexit turmoil.

He said he believed Prime Minister Theresa May had 鈥渘egotiated the best deal possible鈥 with the EU, and that MPs 鈥渟hould have taken it.鈥

鈥淲e cannot make demands to the other 27 nations when it was us who wanted to go in the first place.

鈥淵ou just cannot do it. I would tell us to get stuffed if I was them. I understand the Labour Party would say it is a bad deal, but I think it was the best we had.鈥
