What was your first job (and how much did it pay)? My first jobs were actually two part-time roles. I worked as a call centre representative for Vodafone after college, and I also worked in the trainer section at JD Sports on Saturdays and during college holidays. Both roles taught me how to communicate with people and the importance of working hard - great lessons early on. They both paid minimum wage.

What is the best advice or support you’ve been given in business? Always prioritise your team, they’re the heart and soul of any business. If you look after them, they’ll look after the business, and that’s always stayed with me.

What are the main changes you’ve seen in your business/sector, and what are the challenges you’re facing? The speed of technology and the focus on sustainability have really shaken things up in the sector. The biggest challenge is keeping up with regulations and making sure we stay ahead of the curve without compromising on quality.

What would your dream job be? Honestly, I’m in it! Leading Alexander Battery Technologies is a job I’m passionate about. But if I wasn’t doing this, I’d love to work as a consultant, helping other businesses solve challenges and grow. Sharing what I’ve learned is really rewarding.

What advice would you give to someone starting a career in your sector? Keep learning and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, that’s how you grow. This industry moves fast, so staying curious and open to new ideas will take you far. And remember, failure is just part of the process.

What makes the North East a good place to do business? The North East has amazing people with the right skills and a can-do attitude. There’s a real sense of pride in the work people do here, and it’s a place where businesses have the support they need to succeed.

How important is it for business to play a role in society? It’s massively important. Businesses should create opportunities and give back, especially by helping young people see what’s possible. Careers in manufacturing, for example, aren’t just about being an engineer, they’re about innovation and creativity. It’s our job to show the next generation what’s out there.

Outside of work, what are you really good at? I’d like to think I’m good at balancing work and family life. Most weekends, I’m with my six-year-old son, and we spend a lot of time watching or playing football. It’s important to have that mix and enjoy time with the people who matter most.

Who would play you in a film about your life? I’d go with Chris Hemsworth not just because he’s got that charisma, but because having Thor saving the world with a battery pack instead of a hammer would be pretty entertaining.

Which three people would you invite to a dinner party, and why? Elon Musk, David Beckham and Jeff Bezos. Mr Musk for his wild ideas and the way he’s always thinking about the future. I’d love to hear what’s on his mind. David Beckham has been my idol since I was a kid, and I admire how he’s gone from football to business to being a global success. And Jeff Bezos is the guy who turned Amazon into a household name. I’d be curious to hear his take on building something from the ground up and handling the challenges along the way.
