A Doncaster business chief has urged Government to strike a trade arrangement with the EU 'as promised' warning firms could go out of business in a no deal Brexit scenario.

Chamber of commerce boss Dan Fell said though some businesses had opposing views on the political wings of Brexit, what united them was the 'lack of clarity from Government' over the future arrangememts

Mr Fell said the Government had handled the issue of Brexit 'poorly' and it was 'near impossible' to plan for no deal because many questions had been left unanswered from Whitehall.

"There's broad church of business opinion and the issue of Brexit divides them as communities are but what unites them is for things that need to be organised and clear," Mr Fell said.

"It doesn't matter if they think they will have risk to mitigate or an opportunity to maximise potential, having a clear sense of what's going to happen is extremely important.

"The fact we have a matter of weeks to go with no clarity on if there's going to be a deal and what it may or may not look like - it's impossible for businesses in Doncaster to get ready.

"There's real anxiety in the business community and if it is a no deal Brexit, there is still a load of things Government hasn't played back to the private sector and what it means. It's pretty galling and frustrating for a lot of people."

Negotiations between the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and the EU will continue in Brussels but a new deadline for a decision has not been set.
