Wylfa nuclear developer responds to Boris Johnson's green revolution as 'several parties' eye site

Horizon Nuclear Power welcome sector recognition but say they need to see how Government plans to fund plants

The developer behind Wylfa Newydd has welcomed º£½ÇÊÓÆµ Government commitment to nuclear but say they still need details about how they plan to fund new reactors.

The Prime Minister has set out an ambitious ten point plan for a green industrial revolution which could create and support up to 250,000 British jobs.

Nuclear is part of that and Boris Johnson announced £525 million to help develop large and smaller-scale nuclear plants, and research and develop new advanced modular reactors.

It is welcome news for the sector but with Wylfa Newydd costing around £16bn it doesn't touch the sides in terms of funding large scale projects.

Meanwhile the investment in new advanced modular reactors was welcome news for Trawsfynydd in Gwynedd which is at the front of the queue for a potential SMR development.
