Electricity provider Northern Powergrid is to give customers a voice in the decarbonisation debate, asking about priorities and the price they are willing to pay to fight climate change.

The distribution network operator for the North East, Yorkshire and the Humber, is looking at a range of options, with insight and virtual business propositions put forward.

It is compiled in an interactive microsite as it looks at the future of the energy network beyond 2023 - and towards 2050.

“There are some very important choices to be made in the coming months” Phil Jones, Northern Powergrid’s president and chief executive said.

“As we consider the options, we need to hear from our customers and stakeholders so we can deliver a plan that reflects their needs and the needs of the wider communities we serve. For example, it’s clear that we have a vital role to play in meeting net zero by 2050, but that still leaves open a wide range of options about what this actually looks like.

“We are embarking on a significant engagement campaign that will see opportunities for every corner of our communities to have their say.”

He wants customers to help shape thinking that will lead to future decisions on how it will power the lives of eight million customers and 3.9 million homes and businesses.
