Work is under way on a new 150-home development in North Devon. Housebuilder Allison Homes secured planning permission for the Tarka Coombe scheme at Landkey earlier this year.

The new neighbourhood will include a mix of one- to four-bedroom properties, with 30% designated as affordable.

The first homes are due for completion in early 2026, with the development expected to be finished by the end of 2028.

John Phillips, build director for Allison Homes South West, said: “After securing planning, we’re thrilled to commence works on-site. Breaking ground is a significant milestone for our team and the local community.

“This marks the start of delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes that will meet the needs of a growing population in and around the Landkey, Barnstaple and Bideford areas.

“As construction progresses, we look forward to creating a place to live that supports community wellbeing, enhances the natural environment and contributes positively to the local economy.”

Representatives from Allison Homes and JAO Groundworks gathered at the site to mark the ground-breaking, which has started with infrastructure works and preparing the land in readiness for a house build start.

The scheme includes public green space, a new play area, and a community orchard, all of which will provide new connections to the 180-mile Tarka Trail.
