The development that will soon be home to a huge new Aldi next to the M62 and M57 motorways is underway.

Barnfield Construction Ltd is now on site for the Beacon 62 project, and the firm says the steel frame is being erected for the 11.5 acre Knowsley mixed-use development, with a separate 12,000 sq ft area for smaller businesses.

Last year, developers said the entire Merseyside project would create 480 jobs, with a value of around £10m.

According to Barnfield, the Beacon 62 development is being brought forward in partnership with Barnfield Construction and Henry Boot Developments under the joint venture company name, Henry Boot Barnfield Limited.

Phase 1 will consist of an 18,000 sq ft Aldi supermarket adjacent to both the M62 and M57 motorways, and work starting this week has been described as the store becoming a "step closer" to reality.

Contractors, developers and investors, Barnfield Construction will undertake all construction works on the site, which extends across three plots.

Consent was granted in 2018 for a Supermarket, Petrol Filling Station and a 12,500sqft B1/B2 unit, with strong interest on phase 3 from a "single well-known occupier".

Tracy Clavell-Bate, head of development at Barnfield Construction, said: “This will be our fourth contract with Aldi with others being in Clitheroe, St Helens and just completed last month, Rhyl.
