Developer Bellway has announced it has reached the halfway mark of a housing project that will ultimately create 150 new homes in Wiltshire.

More than 60 families have now moved into the development at Bowood View, off Semington Road in Melksham, with 75 properties now complete.

Bellway, which began work on Bowood View in 2018, said that nearly all of the 105 two to four-bedroom houses for private sale have now been reserved, and just four properties remain for sale.

The development will also deliver 45 affordable homes available for local people through rent or shared ownership alongside public open space and land for a new village hall.

Bellway is contributing more than 拢1m to the local community as part of the planning agreement for the development.

This will include 拢500,000 towards the village hall, more than 拢600,000 for secondary school facilities and 拢22,000 on highway improvements. A further 拢45,000 will be used for public art.

Rachel Way, sales manager for Bellway South West, said the development鈥檚 site had proven 鈥渋ncredibly popular鈥 due to its rural location and connectivity.

Ms Way said: 鈥淰isitors to the site have commented that they鈥檝e been attracted by the lovely feel of the public open space provided within the development itself, which complements the surrounding Wiltshire countryside, as well as the generous parking available and the quality of the build.

鈥淭he development is situated under a mile from Melksham鈥檚 town centre, and there are good road links to Chippenham, Bath, Bristol and Swindon, ideal for commuters, while Melksham railway station is just a mile-and-a-half from home.

鈥淭his is a really lovely part of the world, with the South Cotswolds just 10 miles west of the development, and the Mendip Hills slightly further to the west, while the North Wessex Downs lie to the east.

鈥淲e still have two show homes open to view at the development, the four-bedroom Wroughton and the three-bedroom Shipton, both of which are fantastic homes appealing to a range of different buyers.鈥
