Symmetry Park, a strategic logistics scheme which sits on junction 25 of the M6, has been given the green light by Wigan council.
It comes after the proposals for the scheme, submitted by developer Tritax Symmetry in August 2018, were put to the council鈥檚 planning committee this week (January 14).
The decision will see developers demolish existing buildings and re-profile the site to include new access from the A49 roundabout, onsite parking, a green buffer to the north of the site and extensive landscaping with the aim to screen the development.
Developers said Symmetry Park would deliver a total 1.44m sq ft of employment floor space, create 1,200 jobs during construction and up to 1,650 jobs when completed.
The developer also said the 拢73m construction investment into Wigan would add 拢3m a year in business rates payments towards Wigan Council鈥檚 income.
Andrew Dickman, director of Tritax Symmetry, said: 鈥淟ogistics is hugely important for the Northern Powerhouse and today鈥檚 decision means that Wigan will have its share of the thousands of jobs on offer.
鈥淣ow that we鈥檝e had the green light from Wigan Council we鈥檒l be working with our Local Employment Group to prepare a training and employment management plan which will ensure the opportunities are realised for the local area.
鈥淲e鈥檒l also start putting the plans in place for the Community Benefit Fund which will provide 拢144,000 for local causes.鈥
