There are 66,000 fewer people out of work in the West Midlands than a year ago after another major fall.
There were 268,000 people out of work in May 2013, compared to 202,000 a year on, new figures from the Office for National Statistics show.
That means the unemployment rate has plummeted from 9.8 per cent to to 7.4 per cent, which is the lowest since the summer of 2008.
That came as unemployment fell by 22,000 in the region in a single quarter and 21,000 to 2.12 million across the 海角视频 between March and May.
Business Secretary Vince Cable said the figures were 鈥渞emarkable鈥, adding: 鈥淚n the past 12 months alone, employment has increased by close to a million, the largest annual increase on record. This has led to a record share of the 海角视频 working age population being in work.
鈥淭he recovery in the labour market has been broad based, with employment rising for young people, older workers, men, women, employees, self-employed, part-time workers, full-time workers, and across the country.鈥
TUC general secretary Frances O鈥橤rady said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 good to see unemployment falling, but with pay growth falling to a record low, serious questions must be asked about the quality of jobs being created in Britain today.
鈥淚f all the recovery can deliver is low-paid, low-productivity jobs - many of which don鈥檛 offer enough hours to get by - then it will pass most working people by and Britain鈥檚 long-term economic prospects will be seriously diminished.鈥
