West Midlands Police confirms closure of 28 buildings

Full list and dates of those offices and small stations which have been decreed surplus to requirements as force continues money-saving mission

The Jewellery Quarter's police station, at the foot of the Big Peg, will close in 2018

Police chiefs have rubber-stamped the closure of 28 offices belonging to the West Midlands force.

Officials launched four weeks of public engagement about the plan - aimed at saving £8 million - in October.

Despite objections from politicians and the public, the force's Strategic Crime Board backed the closures at its most recent meeting.

The force previously described the buildings, which account for more than ten per cent of the entire police estate, as "not fundamental to service delivery".

The closures will cost around £500,000 and will be completed by March 2018, according to a report.

Despite petitions being raised against some of the closures, including 700 signatures gathered in Halesowen alone, the report said there was no need to review the decisions.

The document, called Estates Strategy, said: "These sites are not identified as designated public contact offices and are not open to the public.

"None of them have custodial facilities and are not used for response policing.
