Welsh Government has seen its latest coronavirus restrictions pass through the Senedd with a bid to overturn the new rules rejected.

Last Friday the Government brought in a ban on alcohol sales in pubs, cafes and restaurants and a 6pm closing time in a bid to tackle rising Covid rates in Wales.

They came under fire for not debating the measures prior to their implementation.

Today members of the Senedd debated the measures and got a chance to vote.

It saw 33 members support the legislation with 10 abstentions and nine against.

An amendment by Conservative MS Darren Millar calling for Welsh Government to publish the evidence on which it based its decision to close indoor entertainment venues was supported.

A Plaid amendment from MS Sian Gwenllian to the Welsh Government motion called for the ban on the sale of alcohol to be lifted for hospitality but this was defeated by 29 votes to 24.

A counter proposal by Mr Millar to suspend the restrictions and adopt a more proportionate and targeted approach to tackling the coronavirus in Wales was rejected by 27 votes to 17 with nine abstentions.
