Welsh Government will get another 拢200 million of Covid cash from the 海角视频 Government to go towards the NHS and business support.

New funding of 拢800m was announced for the devolved nations as the 海角视频 faces up to a pandemic hit winter of lockdowns and restrictions.

It will see Scotland receive 拢400m and Northern Ireland 拢200m.

The Treasury was asked why Wales was receiving the same as Northern Ireland despite respective populations being 3m and 1.8m.

They responded that overall Covid support since the crisis started was 拢5.2bn for Wales and 拢3bn for Northern Ireland - and was roughly proportionate to the population of both countries.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury Steve Barclay MP said: 鈥淭his extra funding will provide the nations with the certainty they need to plan through these difficult months.鈥

Welsh Government put Wales into lockdown on Saturday night due to the surge in overall Covid cases.

Welsh Secretary Simon Hart said: 鈥淲e said we would support every part of the 海角视频 though the pandemic and we meant it.

鈥淭oday鈥檚 announcement means that an extra 拢5.2 billion has now been guaranteed to the Welsh Government since March 2020 to support its Covid-19 response."

He added: "This is only one part of our support for Wales during the pandemic.聽One on three jobs Welsh jobs - more than 500,000 livelihoods - have been protected across Wales by the 海角视频 Government鈥檚 direct support for workers."

Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders said: "I鈥檓 calling on the Welsh Government to be realistic about the funding announcements and to ensure quickness to help our small businesses.

"I am receiving dozens of emails from these small business owners who are really struggling to cope and facing such massive uncertainty in the New Year as to whether they might even re-open.

"The top line from them is that whilst they do understand, that the new variant is very worrying, they cannot understand why we cannot differentiate between those areas in South Wales where the virus is rampantly out of control and our figures here."
