Business confidence in Wales fell last month but firms are continuing to eye opportunities for growth in the next six months, says the latest Business Barometer from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking. The survey found that confidence among Welsh firms fell 14 points during May but remained in positive territory at 18%.

Companies in Wales also reported lower confidence levels in their own business prospects month-on-month, down 14 points at 28%. When taken alongside their optimism in the economy, down 15 points to 7%, this gave a headline confidence reading of 18%.

However, Welsh businesses continued to identify their top target areas for growth in the next six months as investing in sustainability (27%), evolving their offering (26%), and introducing new technology (25%).
