Well known Leicester city centre pub goes on the market

It was opened by Burton brewers Bass, Ratcliff and Gretton in 1960, as the Nags Head, and became The Criterion in 2003

How the Criterion in Leicester used to look

A once-popular city centre pub, known for its craft ales, live music and pizzas has been has been put up for rent.

The CAMRA-award-winning pub Criterion, in Millstone Lane, Leicester, closed its doors for the last time three years ago, and despite various attempts to reopen, stayed that way.

Now it is being offered to rent for £25,000 a year through Leicester agent Kal Sangra Shonki Brothers.

Back in August 2019, a director of Dhillons Group – a London-based family business – told LeicestershireLive that the pub was planning to become Dhillon's Pub and Pizza, focusing on "great pizza and great beers".

A year later it was reported that the pub had undergone a full refurbishment, but the opening had been delayed due to Covid-19.

The pub was built as the Nags Head by Burton brewers Bass, Ratcliff and Gretton in 1960, and was turned into The Criterion Free House in 2003.

According to the agent's details, the recently refurbished ground floor covers more than 2,400 sq ft, with two bars, a kitchen, basement and loos.

Outside, there are two parking spaces and a seating area. Fixtures and fittings can be purchased for £50,000.
