Senedd members have backed plans to extend the Wales Covid Pass to cinemas, theatres and concert halls.

The passes were introduced last month for nightclubs and larger events - meaning people over 18 have to prove that they’ve had two vaccination doses or a negative lateral flow test result to gain entry.

Now after a debate and vote in the Senedd the Covid Pass will also be required to go to the cinema, theatre or a concert.

The vote passed by 39 votes to 15.

Welsh Government has previously also warned that these could be extended to pubs, cafes and restaurants if rates remained high - however case rates have dropped since then from over 700 cases per 100,000 to 520.

It comes as Welsh Government said there was "no need" for compulsory Covid jabs for health or social care staff in Wales - with people in the entertainment sector questioning why vaccinations are needed to visit the cinema but not treat patients.

Health minister Eluned Morgan said she "stood here in sadness" when introducing this legislation but she stressed the measures were to "keep these venues open" in the run up to Christmas.

She said the system was working well at clubs and events and the "majority of the public" support passes.
