Retro fashion retailer Urban Village has announced it is closing its store.

From its base , the independent store is well-known among lovers of 1950s, 60s and 70s clothing across Birmingham.

It is set to close on August 30, with a closing down sale starting on Saturday, August 16.

Owner Frankie Johns announced the news on Facebook.

He said: “It comes with great regret that I must inform all my loyal Urban Village customers that we will be closing our doors for the very last time on August 30.

“This announcement comes with a heavy heart, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end.

“After putting my heart and soul into Urban Village over many years and leading the business through recession, I have decided it is time for new ventures that will enable me to spend more time as a private person with my family.”

Last year the store won Best Regional Store at the National Vintage Awards and Mr Johns revealed Urban Village could make a return in some form with plans to attend memorabilia fairs and develop online sales.
