º£½ÇÊÓƵ's biggest community solar park on North Wales and Cheshire farmland out for consultation

Ynni Newydd (New Energy) ready to submit plans for 49 hectare Bretton Hall Solar Farm

Solar Park consultation

The ambition of creating the largest community owned solar farm in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ is moving a step closer with a new consultation launching ahead of plans being submitted.

Ynni Newydd (New Energy) propose a large solar park on farmland on the Flintshire/Cheshire border.

If approved, it will have a 30MW generation capacity, enough to power 8,400 homes, and will lead to a reduction of over 6000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

The site would cover 49 hectares of land currently used for sheep grazing, which could continue after construction.

As the planning documents for the Bretton Hall Solar Farm are finalised a final consultation will take place with residents and stakeholders through drop in events in Saltney and Broughton, close to the proposed site.

Grant Peisley, a director of Ynni Newydd, said: "Before putting together the planning documentation we held an early consultation which showed a lot of interest. Due to Covid however, this needed to be virtually, so this is the first time we have been able to go into the community and we’re really looking forward to it.

"All are welcome to come and meet the team, this is a fantastic opportunity for them to talk to local people about the solar farm."

He added: "The proposed development will be a source of clean, renewable energy that will mitigate climate change and provide benefits to the local community through community ownership.
