under new leader Paul Nuttall can fill a 鈥減atriotic vacumn鈥 left by , says a West Midlands MEP.
Mr Nuttall has promised to 鈥渞eplace鈥 Labour as the voice of the working class after being elected by a landslide as Nigel Farage鈥檚 successor.
And the result was welcomed by West Midlands MEP Bill Etheridge, who said 海角视频IP could appeal to patriotic working class voters who are not attracted to the views of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.
Mr Etheridge, who is also a councillor in Dudley, said: 鈥淧aul Nuttall is a colleague and a great friend of mine and I am absolutely delighted that he has been victorious in this election.鈥
He added: 鈥淲hat we need is the various factions to come together and work in a common cause. 海角视频IP are needed to ensure a proper Brexit is achieved, as per the will of the people, and also make sure we stay out out in the future.
鈥満=鞘悠礗P can fill the political vacuum caused by Labour鈥檚 lurch to the left and represent the patriotic working man in a way that the Islington based establishment fail to achieve.鈥
But Labour politician Sion Simon, Labour鈥檚 candidate to be West Midlands mayor, said: 鈥淭his is the third or fourth time that Nigel Farage has tried to step aside after the Brexit vote but none of them seem to know what鈥檚 the point of 海角视频IP now that they鈥檝e got what they wanted and we鈥檙e leaving the EU.
鈥淐learly, they don鈥檛 have any kind of plan for the West Midlands. They don鈥檛 believe in us governing ourselves and want to carry on with our region being run by politicians in London.鈥
Mr Nuttal , an MEP representing North-West England, took 62.6% of the vote in 海角视频IP's leadership contest, easily beating former deputy chairwoman Suzanne Evans on 19.3% and ex-soldier John Rees-Evans on 18.1%.
He set his sights are on poaching votes from Labour, arguing that the party under Jeremy Corbyn was more interested in 鈥渄inner party鈥 topics like climate change and fair trade than the interests of their working class voters, such as immigration and social mobility.
鈥淚 want to replace the Labour Party and make Ukip the voice of patriotic Britain,鈥 he said in a speech after being named the new leader at an event in Westminster.
鈥淯kip鈥檚 future is bright, but for it to be so, Ukip must unite. Today鈥檚 result has ensured that it will.鈥
Merseyside-born former history lecturer Mr Nuttall dismissed suggestions that the Eurosceptic party had fulfilled its mission in securing a Leave vote in June鈥檚 referendum on European Union membership.
鈥淭he country needs a strong Ukip more now than ever before, for if Ukip ceases to be an electoral force, there will be no impetus on Theresa May and her Government to give us real Brexit and we will end up with some mealy-mouthed, backsliding version,鈥 he said.
鈥淭his will be a betrayal of the British people and a united Ukip under my leadership will never, ever allow that to happen.鈥
Mr Farage agreed that Ukip should push for support in the Midlands and North of England, where many pro-EU Labour MPs were at odds with their traditional supporters, more than half of whom voted for Brexit.
鈥淥ld Labour voters have absolutely nowhere else to go other than to come to Ukip,鈥 said the outgoing leader.
Mr Farage promised not to be 鈥渁 back seat driver鈥 but promised he would be available to offer support to the new leader if asked.
He said he would serve out his term in the European Parliament until 2019.
But more imminently, he was this week 鈥済oing off to the USA - but, you will understand, purely as a tourist鈥.
In a move to restore unity after a summer of rifts, infighting and resignations, Mr Nuttall appointed figures from across the spectrum of Ukip factions to senior positions - and indicated he would be offering a role to defeated leadership rival Ms Evans.
