º£½ÇÊÓƵIP council election success just the start, says MEP Mike Nattrass

º£½ÇÊÓƵIP’S West Midlands Euro-MP has called on the main political parties to wake up and take notice after the anti-EU party gained its first local council seats – winning a quarter of the vote nationally.

º£½ÇÊÓƵIP’S West Midlands Euro-MP has called on the main political parties to wake up and take notice after the anti-EU party gained its first local council seats – winning a quarter of the vote nationally.

MEP Mike Nattrass was also celebrating after º£½ÇÊÓƵIP gained footholds on both Staffordshire and Worcestershire County Councils and claimed it was the start process towards bringing Britain out of the European Union.

He said: “More people are realising that the main parties are not doing it for them. They want us to look after Britain first, control our own borders, protect our jobs and the main parties don’t get it.”

He challenged the Prime Minister to hold a referendum on Europe membership now if he wanted rid of º£½ÇÊÓƵIP.

He said that key local issues, such as the HS2 line through Warwickshire and Staffordshire and incinerators and wind farms in other areas had also boosted support for º£½ÇÊÓƵIP.

The Party secured four seats on Worcestershire County Council: Stourport-on-Severn, St Mary’s in Kidderminster; Arrow Valley East in Redditch; and Redditch South. In Staffordshire they won Burntwood South and took Keele, Knutton and Silverdale by a margin of two votes over Labour.

A poor election for the Conservatives saw them retain Worcestershire and Staffordshire with a much reduced majority, but lose control of Warwickshire – where there will now be horse trading between the various parties to see who runs the county.

Warwickshire’s Conservative council leader Alan Farnell lost his Nuneaton Weddington seat in a huge swing to Green Party candidate Keith Kondakor. The Greens also picked up Leamington Brunswick, to secure their first county seats.
