TV architect George Clarke and former MP Clare Short to receive honorary degrees

University of Wolverhampton will recognise a host of 'inspirational' people at ceremonies next month including singer Jaki Graham and paralympian Danielle Brown

Television architect George Clarke is among a host of "inspirational" people set to receive honorary degrees from a Midland university.

The star of Channel 4 programmes including The Restoration Man and George Clarke's Amazing Spaces will be made a doctor of technology by the University of Wolverhampton.

Former Birmingham Ladywood MP and top Government Minister Clare Short will be awarded an honorary degree of doctor of letters for her African humanitarian efforts.

Paul Birch, music mogul and founder of the Revolver Records label, will receive an honorary fellowship while Jazz singer and Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal - a University of Wolverhampton alumna - will receive an honorary degree of doctor of music.

Paralympic gold medallist Danielle Brown MBE, a three-time world champion and record holder in archery, will be presented with an honorary fellowship.

Awards will be presented to individuals from various fields, including music, sport, health, education and law, in recognition of their "significant achievements" during ceremonies at Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre between September 17 and 25.

Set to be honoured for their educational achievements are former government minister and co-founder of the Baker Dearing Educational Trust, Lord Kenneth Baker, and the university's former deputy vice-chancellor Jane Nelson.

Also receiving awards are influential nursing leader Janice Stevens CBE and professor of paediatrics and child health Rashid Gatrad.
