Engie will provide facilities management at the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital

Engie has won the contract to provide facilities management services at the new Midland Metropolitan Hospital.

The French group specialises in the production and supply of energy to homes and businesses and already provides facilities management in more than 30 hospitals across the NHS.

This new five-year contract secures provision for estate services in operating the new hospital in Smethwick which is due to open in 2022.

The deal comes just weeks after Balfour Beatty was signed up to complete construction of the hospital which has suffered delays after original contractor Carillion collapsed two years ago.

Richard Samuda, chairman of Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, said: "This is a key, long-term relationship for us, with a shared commitment to local procurement, local employment and the living wage."
