Drivers at 12 train operating companies are set to strike at the start of next month, potentially impacting the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham.
The Press Association says it understands that the walkout is planned for October 1 to 5, encompassing all four days of the annual party political conference which starts on October 2.
If it goes ahead, it will be the latest in a summer of disruption by trade unions in a long-running row over pay at the train operators.
