Hull is set to stage a major national tourism industry awards ceremony later this year.
More than 400 people working in the sector will attend the new-look VisitEngland Awards for Excellence event at the city's DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on June 16.
As well as the ceremony, the VisitEngland agency will also run a tourism expo at the Bonus Arena on the same day.
The announcement is a major coup for Hull City Council, which was instrumental in both the hotel and arena developments, providing land for the former and funding the construction of the latter.
Both were aimed at improving Hull’s profile as a potential venue for major events and conferences with the aim of attracting more visitors to the city to boost the economy.
Councillor Dave Craker, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “These awards are the highest accolades in English tourism.
“To host them is an incredible honour for Hull and recognition that the city is developing into a first-class tourist destination.
“The awards will take place in the DoubleTree by Hilton and Bonus Arena, two fantastic venues and examples of the significant investment in tourism, culture and leisure that we have seen in the city over the past few years.”

The new trade event-style Learning Expo at the Bonus Arena will provide tourism businesses with tools and expertise to help them promote and enhance their products for the modern consumer.
Attendees will have access to learning hubs looking at critical business issues within the industry such as reducing waste and attracting overseas visitors.
Each hub area will have experts on hand to give top tips and answer questions.
