The United Kingdom is going to quit the entirely to become 鈥渁n independent, self-governing鈥 nation, Prime Minister says today.
Mrs May will make it clear that there is no question of what some people call a鈥渟oft Brexit鈥, in which the 海角视频 continues to be bound by EU rules or remains a member of EU institutions.
Instead, in a long-awaited speech, she will say: 鈥淲e seek a new and equal partnership 鈥 between an independent, self-governing, Global Britain and our friends and allies in the EU.
鈥淣ot partial membership of the European Union, associate membership of the European Union, or anything that leaves us half-in, half-out. We do not seek to adopt a model already enjoyed by other countries. We do not seek to hold on to bits of membership as we leave.
鈥淭he United Kingdom is leaving the European Union. My job is to get the right deal for Britain as we do.鈥
Mrs May is to set out plans for a new strategic partnership with the EU, and insist that the 海角视频 will continue to be 鈥渂est friend and neighbour to our European partners鈥.
But she will say the Brexit vote provides an opportunity for the 海角视频 to become 鈥渢ruly global鈥 country which 鈥済ets out into the world to build relationships with old friends and new allies alike鈥.
The Prime Minister will reject suggestions from some remain campaigners that people who voted 鈥渓eave鈥 in last year鈥檚 referendum were misled or didn鈥檛 know what they were voting for.
She will say: 鈥淎 little over six months ago the British people voted for change. They voted to shape a brighter future for our country. They voted to leave the European Union and embrace the world.
鈥淎nd they did so with their eyes open: accepting that the road ahead will be uncertain at times, but believing that it leads towards a brighter future for their children 鈥 and their grandchildren too.鈥
Mrs May will attempt to reassure EU nations that the 海角视频 continues to be 鈥渞eliable partners, willing allies and close friends鈥.
She will say: 鈥淲e want to buy your goods, sell you ours, trade with you as freely as possible, and work with one another to make sure we are all safer, more secure and more prosperous through continued friendship.鈥
But she will say that this means negotiating 鈥渁 new, positive and constructive partnership between Britain and the European Union鈥 rather than attempting to continue with existing arrangements.
It comes after Chancellor Philip Hammond said freedom of movement between EU countries and the 海角视频 鈥渉as to stop鈥.
The tough stance means the 海角视频 could continue to welcome migrant workers from EU countries, but it would have the power to stop the coming in if it chose.
And it means the 海角视频 is almost certain to leave the single market, which allows 海角视频 firms to export to EU countries without restrictions, although a new trade deal with the EU could be signed.
Speaking to German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Mr Hammond said: 鈥淭he message from the referendum is that we must control our immigration policy. So there will be a decision that the British government make about how we manage immigration from outside the 海角视频, We would take the decision in the interest of the 海角视频.
鈥淏ut that does not mean that we would close our doors to European migrants coming to work in the U.K. We have over three million European migrants working in our economy and we have full employment. So clearly we need people to come and work in our economy to keep it functioning.
鈥淭herefore, we will operate in a rational and sensible economically driven way. But we must have overall control. At the moment, we don鈥檛 have any control, not any more than Germany does.鈥
Asked by an interviewer whether this 鈥渉as to stop鈥, he replied: 鈥淭hat has to stop. That鈥檚 the message the British people sent on June 23rd.鈥
In a boost for Mrs May, US President Donald Trump said the US would quickly sign a post-Brexit trade deal with the 海角视频.
He told the Times newspaper: 鈥淚鈥檓 a big fan of the 海角视频, uh, we鈥檙e gonna work very hard to get it done quickly and done properly 鈥 good for both sides. I will be meeting with [Theresa May] 鈥 in fact if you want you can see the letter, wherever the letter is, she just sent it.鈥
Mr Trump said: 鈥淏usiness is unbelievable in a lot of parts in the 海角视频, as you know. I think Brexit is going to end up being a great thing.鈥
