Theatr Clwyd's £35m redevelopment will now start next year - with digital events this month to showcase the changes planned.

The 1970s built complex in Mold is in need of a major overhaul with a risk to future shows if nothing is done.

Planning permission was secured last year for the changes but Covid has caused a slight delay in the project. There have been some adjustments to the plans and a revised scheme will go back to planning this year.

Subject to planning, they say works will start in early 2022 - with funding from Welsh Government, trusts and foundations, private philanthropy, the Arts Council Wales and Flintshire County Council.

There will now be a final public consultation with free open-to-all digital events where anyone can find out more about its landmark redevelopment project.

It will feature updated design images by architects Haworth Tompkins.

Under the plan the 45-year-old building will be extensively refurbished and repaired, along with significant improvements to ensure that this ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ project will see a greener, more energy efficient building enabling large savings on gas, electricity, and water costs, and make better use of resources.

During the phased revamp performances will continue on site as well as in a 300-seat pop-up theatre next to the main building.
