Sutton Coldfield protesters warn developers off the green belt

Protesters walked around almost 1,000 acres of land earmarked for up to 6,000 homes and a giant factory

More than 200 protestors joined a walk against developing in the green belt

More than 200 residents have told council planners and developers to keep their hands off Sutton Coldfield’s green fields.

Protesters walked around almost 1,000 acres of land earmarked for up to 6,000 homes and a giant factory.

Sutton MP Andrew Mitchell and members of the Project Fields campaign group led the march.

Birmingham City Council has earmarked the land, east of Walmley, for development to meet increasing demand for housing.

The proposal will go before a Government inspector at a public inquiry starting on Monday, October 20.

Project Fields spokeswoman Suzanne Webb said: “Residents were out in force.

“They are disappointed that, while they have tried to understand the position of city council in wanting to release green belt land, the authority has failed to understand the residents’ position.

“It has ignored all 5,863 comments made during consultation. If common sense prevails the green belt will be removed from the plan for development.
