If there’s one thing I’ve learned during my first year as editor of the Birmingham Post it’s that readers love Snobs Nightclub.

Late last year we broke the news that ; a story that sent our online stats through the roof.

And this week , complete with the wall of scary white faces we’ve all grown up to know and love (apologies if you’ve never been and you have no idea what I’m talking about). This story has had a similar effect on our web traffic figures.

I can’t wait to road test the new Snobs but, call me old-fashioned, I fear it just won’t be the same without those sticky floors.

The race is on to save another slice of Birmingham’s heritage after before the building collapses.

This attractive Victorian factory is scheduled for restoration as part of the Eastside Locks canalside development but needs shoring up before it deteriorates any further.

The clock is ticking. Work needs to start now.

Tributes were being paid this week to the brilliant University of Birmingham academic .

Mr Hall - famous for coining the term ‘Thatcherism’ - had a difficult relationship with the university thanks to his outspoken views and sit-in protests but his achievements in cultural research deserve widespread recognition.

His death comes at a time when the university is making national headlines for its over a perceived lack of democracy descended into violence.

One wonders what Mr Hall would have made of the suspensions.

Finally, the Birmingham Post is bidding to win the Public Choice Award at this year’s Midlands Media Awards. For us to win this we need your votes. If you use twitter all you need to do is tweet ‘This is my vote for at #MidlandsMediaAwards 2014’.
