Birmingham’s oldest business club is ringing the changes by appointing its first ever female committee member in its 153-year-old history.
Online marketing director Sarah Whitticase has joined the executive ranks of St Paul’s Club, which for much of its century-and-a-half existence was an all-male domain.
Ms Whitticase’s appointment also coincides with another first for the private members’ club, which was founded in 1859, after it appointed its first American president in the shape of Bart Dalton.

For much of its history St Paul’s Club had a reputation for being highly traditional and male-orientated but in recent years it has opened its doors to welcome more female professionals and businesswomen.
“I’m very proud to become the first female committee member of what has traditionally been a male only club,” said Ms Whitticase. “I have certainly been made most welcome here and have already forged some strong business alliances.
“We are growing and our events are open to everyone, including the newly launched ladies’ lunches which are designed to welcome local businesswomen who would like to network in very pleasant surroundings.”
Mr Dalton, principal at Taurus Wealth, said he has high ambitions for the club and is keen to champion the Birmingham business community.
He said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be the first American president St Paul’s Club has ever had. I’m excited by the future plans we have to support businesses as the Birmingham business community is thriving.”
