St Modwen unveils plans to build almost 700 new homes on MG Longbridge site

The developer said the scheme will create up to 1,000 new jobs

St Modwen is leading the long-running regeneration of Longbridge

Developer St Modwen has unveiled plans to build up to 695 new homes on a former automotive site in Longbridge in a move which could create up to 1,000 new jobs.

The company wants to transform the site of MG's former Mini car assembly line into a "green and tranquil" new district of the south Birmingham town.

The proposals include the construction of hundreds of homes and workspaces - including studios, offices and co-working environments - for a wide range of businesses.

Now members of the public are being invited to have their say on the proposals in an online consultation which is open for feedback until Monday, June 28.

Elliot Sellars, development director at St Modwen, said: "St Modwen is proud to call Longbridge home. It is important to us, just as it will be important to the local community, to make sure these proposals deliver the jobs, open public space and homes Longbridge needs in a way that helps the area build back better.

"Our proposals for the site aim to recognise the wonderful history of this area, retaining a number of heritage buildings and transforming them into the workspaces of the future.

"Alongside this, we will be seeking to deliver homes for future generations, to enable more people to live and work locally with access to the wide range of amenities readily available in Longbridge town centre.

"We're now asking our neighbours and the residents of Longbridge to have their say on our plans so together we can deliver a proposal to submit to Birmingham City Council that reflects the heritage, identify and aspirations of Longbridge."
