The Signature Living company behind an historic hotel development has gone into administration.

Signature Living Coal Exchange Limited, the company behind the hotel at the Coal Exchange building in Cardiff, went into the hands of administrators of financial firm Wilson Field Ltd on May 12, according to the London Gazette's official public records.

It's another blow for the struggling hotel group, and BusinessLive to go into administration - all in the past few weeks.

The Coal Exchange news comes just four months after Cardiff Council offered Signature Living a £2 million loan to help them finish the delayed development, although this money was never paid to the company.

While the Coal Exchange hotel had partially opened, with around 90 rooms, Signature had been planning further renovations to open up the building fully.

The company that operates the Exchange Hotel in the building is still operating.

Signature Living Coal Exchange's most recently published accounts, for the year ended March 31, 2018, show it had assets worth £10.4m and debts of £19m.

Signature Living Hotel Limited, which used to be the parent company to the Coal Exchange, is also in administration.
